ITN Magazine: Let's talk a little about the history of your band. When did you originally form and is this the original line-up?

This is not the original lineup. OBT formed around the summer of 2013. Andrew our vocalist showed me (Alex Rincon) some poetry that he had written one day. So we immediately began writing music that entire summer. We wrote about 10 different songs throughout the year , chose 5 of the best ones, and put them on our first EP. Then we formed the rest of our band and began playing shows a year later. We’ve been writing music and playing shows ever since.

ITN Magazine: How would you categorize the style of the band?

We like to say that we’re a blend of aggressive melodic punk, and indie rock and spoken word vocals.

ITN Magazine: What image do you want your music to convey to your fans?

I don’t think we really try to convey a specific image. We’re just 4 guys who enjoy making music together in a unique way, and we want to share that with anyone who is willing to  listen.

ITN Magazine: Who are your influences and how have they shaped your band’s sound?

Our Influences span a wide range, but we would narrow it down to Troubled Coast, Aviator, La Dispute, and Being As An Ocean. These bands have helped us carve our own sound out and find our own musical pathway.

ITN Magazine: Let's talk a little about your latest album what are the listeners in store for with this release ?

We just released our first full length record called Waves. It’s something we’ve been working on for a long time and are very proud to release. It’s the culmination of all our hard work over the last 12 months, and we feel it’s the best thing we’ve ever put out in terms of writing and creative production.

ITN Magazine: How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

I would say the lyrical side of our music is one of our most important features of our band. We write a lot about depression, struggles with spirituality, hope and love. We really want our listeners to relate to the topics we write about, and we try to deliver that in a relatable way for everyone to digest.

ITN Magazine: What are your current tour plans, if any?

We have a few smaller runs planned for spring and summer, and then plan on doing a big east coast tour in the fall.

ITN Magazine: Describe your live performance for those who have never seen you live?

We feel our live shows are a celebration of emotion and a culmination of the natural feelings of life. A very raw and beautiful experience that guide the audience toward inner reflection and resolution. We like to think that our live show is the best feature of our band. We try to bring as much energy and emotion to our live set as possible. The guitar tones and lyrics seem to hit so much harder in person. We also have a light show rigged up to sync with our music that definitely contributes to our aesthetic.
