ITN Magazine: Who are your influences and how have they shaped your bands sound?

Rob Malvagno : This is a hard question. I have many influences for a multitude of reasons.  People constantly learn and grow every day until we leave this earth. My musical influences range from the Beatles, Elvis, kiss, Testament, Metallica, Iron Maiden and Life of Agony. However, my biggest influences are everyday people; Mothers and Fathers working 3 jobs to support a family, the men and women in our armed forces & first responders, men women and children who fight everyday with addiction, sickness and other daily obstacles life throws at them.

ITN Magazine: Let's talk a little about your latest album what are the listeners in store for with this release ?

Rob Malvagno: Rise Up! This is mine and the bands greatest music accomplishment. Rise up is heavy in your face pure metal. Rise up takes you on an emotional Roller coaster of love , hate, sadness, rebuilding , strength and power.

ITN Magazine: Where did record your latest release at?

Rob Malvagno: Rise Up was recorded at VuDu studio and the Nest studio long island NY

ITN Magazine: Producers are a very important factor in recording a good record. Who did you use to produce your record?

Rob Malvagno: Joey Z from life of agony coproduced Rise up as well as our first release Irritation.

ITN Magazine: Does the entire band contribute to the writing process?

Rob Malvagno:Yes it is definitely an all hands on deck process.

ITN Magazine: How do you feel the band has evolved musically and personally over the last year?

Rob Malvagno: The band has definitely grown musically. We have learned to take risks. We have become 1000 times better with our live performance. Its magic when the five of us get on that stage. Myself I have grown and have been abel to make it through some tough times in my life because of my music. It helps me everyday.

ITN Magazine: Favorite memory from a show you’ve played or a place you’ve traveled to?

Rob Malvagno: I have three that come to mind that have made an impact on me. On our first tour with Bobaflex . It was the last show of the tour in west Virgina playing to a packed house when we played our song Evil inside and the crowd sang the end with me as loud as the band was playing !!!Second playing a sold out irving plaza in NY city with Michael Schenker and lastly Opening for Life OF Agony when Joey Z was in the front row singing word for word every song with me during our set.

ITN Magazine: Favorite song of yours you’ve written?

Rob Malvagno:They all equally hold an important part in my soul. They are like your children you love them equally.

ITN Magazine: Favorite song of yours that you like to play live?

Rob Malvagno :Again I love every minute I am on stage from the first note to the last ! A Despyre show is Epic.

ITN Magazine: Where do you draw the inspiration for the songs you write?

Rob Malvagno: All my lyrics come from my heart and where I am in the moment, where I have been ,and all of my obstacles , demons, and accomplishments.

ITN Magazine: How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

Very important. They must tell a story that everyone can relate to and have great melody.

ITN Magazine: What are your current tour plans, if any?

Rob Malvagno:We have a lot of offers coming in and are set to hit the road early fall in the U.S. and possibly Europe. We have a few regional shows this summer in the works.

ITN Magazine: Describe your live performance for those who have never seen you live?

Rob Malvagno: Derranged ,Rude and Unglued

ITN Magazine: Getting radio airplay and support is important for a any band, What is your view on that?

Rob Malvagno: Radio play is very important to get your music out there but only if the stations put your music on in Rotation three  to four times a day for at least 4 to 5 weeks .This takes money and you are kind of at the mercy of the dj and program director,if they want to even put you on.

ITN Magazine: Do you see as we do that most local radio rarely support the up and coming new bands and even more local bands just starting out?

Again this takes a lot of money and who you know to get commercial radio to play your music in rotation. There is pretty much zero support for local and or up and coming bands. Getting your song played 1 time on a Sunday or Saturday night at 1 in the morning once a week on a specialty show is not going to do anything.

ITN Magazine: What do you think of the music industry right now?

Rob Malvagno:It kinda sucks. Its all due to streaming sites and subscription sites but unfortunately this is the world we live in today.

ITN Magazine: Did you find it hard to break into the business and what was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome?

Rob Malvagno: Money!!!!

ITN Magazine: Tell us about your thoughts on your local music scene?

Rob Malvagno:I plead the fifth.

ITN Magazine: Are there any new and upcoming bands that you are into?

Rob Malvagno: I do listen to new bands and local bands.I hit as many local shows as I can. But my main focus is the the new up and coming band DESPYRE

ITN Magazine: How has Social Networking (Facebook,Twitter, etc.) impacted your band?

Rob Malvagno:Once again social networking can only go so far without a lot of money to reach the masses. Constanly changing algorithms make it difficult to reach its full potential .But we do use all social media sites as well as the old fashion handshake and flyers.

ITN Magazine: Where can our readers find you on the web?

Rob Malvagno:All of our links to social media are on our website despyre.com

ITN Magazine: What equipment is the band using and do you have any endorsements currently?

Rob Malvagno: I am endorsed by CAD AUDIO

ITN Magazine: Thanks for answering these questions. Do you have any last comments for our readers?

Rob Malvagno:Thank you for all the support, spread the word join the rising!!
