Let's talk a little about the history of the band. When did you originally form and is this the original line-up?

The original line-up never was completed to make a presentation. The originals member are Alexis Mudarra (guitar and vocals), Jonnathan Gonzalez (guitar and vocals), Johan Gonzalez (drum), after to many looking for bassist we found Carlos Gonzalez (bass), and the only are brothers are Jonnathan an d Johan by the way hehe, and for the keyboard we recruit Aquiles Salazar, we hope maintain this line-up longer as we can. We only has 3 years working together and we wait for many more.

Do you remember how the idea of forming the band first came up?

Well that remount to year of University, when Jonnathan Gonzalez and my, Alexis Mudarra, sitting in the University cafeteria at the Universidad de Carabobo, we met and decided to create a new band, for those years we like black metal, but year after our musical taste chance to a new level, melodic death metal, whit more harmonic riff and growls, screaming and clean voices.

How long after you formed was it until you played your first live show?

We are Collateral Detriment since two year ago, but before we was Mors Mortis, whit this band we never come out to stages, we are preparing our debut with Collateral Detriment soon, we hope we can do it this year 2019.

What are your memories of the performance?

We are creating our performance at this moment, whit choreography and public interaction… whit clothing and a scenario according to the theme of the band.

Tell us about the band’s name?

The name of the band arises from the common denominator of the thoughts of the members, the protest against the actions of man that go in the deterioration of the planet, to the detriment of the resources. Wars, deforestation, information control, mismanagement of resources, pollution of the environment, hence Collateral Detriment, we decided on the name in English for the future to reach a larger audience in quantity listening to this style of rock that we do today.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

We are a new band, at this moment only count with an EP named GENESIS, consist in three songs, Altered For Genocide, Rain Of fire and Cyber Control. Available only on-line at our channel in YouTube. www.youtube.com/collateraldetriment/ currently we do not have physical material yet, but we are looking for some recording company to do that soon as possible. Where did record your latest release at?

We recording the EP at the Audynamic Mix and mastering in Valencia, Venezuela.

Producers are a very important factor in recording a good record. Who did you use to produce your record?

We produced our Ep with Bertrand Cape and Felix Molina, the owner of Audynamic Studio. They produced more bands in Venezuela and form part of the band Alice in Hells and Civilis. They used many software for produce and recording music, and we learn how used Reaper for make the takes of the instrument at the process hehe.

Tell us about your experience in the studio recording the new record?

For us were a new and a great experience. We learn much from Bertarnd. All the process to recording every instrument. We paid the hazing, the creating of a song is very easy but recording y release that some part of that song don’t sound good is another thing. Is not the same things hear your own music in a rehearsal versus a well recording sound, in the last you can hear if the melodic and the whole song are really good or not. For example, in our song Altered For Genocide, the end must be change, first the producer said that the original ending were like as if something else was missing, and second the song ends very abrupt. Sometimes we were nervous for the red button (recording button), and we make many takes of a simple riff of guitars or a single verse for the singers. Recording the voice were a real triumph for us, because we never sing before. We learn to sing meanwhile we recording the rest of the instrument, and for be the first time that we sing it end very good, many people said that we sing projecting angry at the voice, well that finish like that because that’s the only sound that like us for our songs.

Was the band comfortable in the studio?

We were very comfortable, nervous but comfortable, the idea of recording our own song makes that anything information fluid quickly, and repair or change a sound were very easy to do. Bertrand were a leader who tell us for the beginning how things were going to be, since the order of the instrument until the maximum time spend dairy for the recording.

Do you remember the very first time you heard the final mix of the new record and what you were thinking?

It was so exciting, we can´t believe that’s the end of the journey. The magnificent final sound, and all the band sound together, and the professional make sound was splendid. In that moment we decided to continue with the process of creating for new songs to make a long play with more songs.

Does the entire band contribute to the writing process?

Well here we using a critical method. We are two singers and guitar man, and the 80% of the sons are composed by us, we make the riff and the harmonic, we build the entire song, and the rest of the band make his contribution in his own instrument. In other words, Jonnathan and my self make a base song and the other only add the sound of their instrument in a way that this new sound don`t generating dissonances that do not please the ear hehe. We are going to change that for the new album, and we’ll take the riff for the rest of the band and make a new song in one rehearsal session or many if necessary.

How do you feel the band has evolved musically and personally over the last year?

Before we decided to recording, we was six members, because the guitarists don`t want to sing. And we try with many singers and bass guitarist. Until we found Carlos Gonzalez who is the actually bassist for the ep, and when we decided that we are not looking anymore for a singer, was when we started to work like a real band, then we incorporate a keyboard in the songs and we found a Aquiles Salazar like official keyboardist for the band. All that happened in the last year.

How would you categorize the style of the band?

We categorized the style of the band like a Melodic Death Metal. We use melodic and harmonic sound mixed with low notes and heavy riff at the guitars and bass and at the drum we use a very deep and progressive riff. And we mixed the growls and clean voice to give a different dynamism to the band.

Can you share with us one or two of your favorite moments with the band?

Our favorite moment was when we was home-recording Rain Of fire, and we only recording 15 sec, and Carlos the bassist, used the social media and public that tiny record, and what’s was our surprise? To many people likes that, and make too many questions, question like from where is that band? Who was singing? Are you? Hehe and by surprise Bertrand showed up and offered to record and produce our songs, a very emotional day for us.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

Our lyrics are guided to social problem, genocide, ecocide, used of power to domain nation or peoples. We high rate our lyric in that sense.

What one CD should everyone have in their collection?

Actually, our first Ep Genesis.

The local scene in centered at the Capital Caracas, and we are from Maracay and Valencia, other State when the music scene is null, is like meanwhile in Caracas are 3 or 4 presentation of band in a week at the rest of the state it could be none.

Why do you think people are into your music?

Because there is a new sound, a melodic sound, that is pleasant to the ear, and not need to be a metalhead to enjoy it. We have present our material to different kind of person with some knowledge of music and their respond are that they like it a lot.

This is a magic world; everyone has his own fanatic, find those fanatics and don’t stop to make music because music make happy people and happy people hear music. Make good music, make metal music.
